Cynanchum stauntonii is a PERENNIAL CLIMBER growing to 1 m (3ft 3in). It is in flower from June to August, and the seeds ripen from August to October. The species is hermaphrodite (has both male and female organs) and is pollinated by Insects. Suitable for: light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils. Suitable pH: mildly acid, neutral and basic (mildly alkaline) soils. It can grow in semi-shade (light woodland) or no shade. It prefers moist soil.

Anodyne Antitussive Expectorant The dried root, decocted with other herbs, is anodyne, antitussive and expectorant[147, 218]. A decoction of the root is used in the treatment of coughs and asthma[147, 176]. Decoctions of all parts are used as a febrifuge and for treating internal fever[266]. The roots are used medicinally for pulmonary tuber-culosis, infantile malnutrition due to intestinal parasites, influenza, cough, and chronic bronchitis[266].
