Physical Characteristics
Juglans sinensis is a deciduous Tree growing to 20 m (65ft 7in). It is in flower from May to June. The species is monoecious (individual flowers are either male or female, but both sexes can be found on the same plant) and is pollinated by Wind. The plant is self-fertile. Suitable for: light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils and prefers well-drained soil. Suitable pH: mildly acid, neutral and basic (mildly alkaline) soils. It cannot grow in the shade. It prefers moist soil.

Edible Uses
Edible Parts: Oil Seed Edible Uses: Oil Seed - raw[105, 177]. It contains 15.8% protein, 66.9% fat, 10.8% carbohydrate and 1.8% ash[179]. An edible oil is obtained from the seed, it tends to go rancid quickly.
Medicinal Uses
Skin The seed is used in Korea to treat spermatorrhoea, frequent urination and dermatitis[279]. The seed contains gangliosides, but no specific bioactivity has been recorded[279].
