Physical Characteristics

Magnolia campbellii is a deciduous Tree growing to 20 m (65ft) by 8 m (26ft). See above for USDA hardiness. It is hardy to UK zone 8 and is frost tender. It is in flower from April to May, and the seeds ripen from July to August. The species is hermaphrodite (has both male and female organs) and is pollinated by Beetles. Suitable for: light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils and prefers well-drained soil. Suitable pH: mildly acid and neutral soils. It can grow in semi-shade (light woodland) or no shade. It prefers moist soil. It can tolerate atmospheric pollution.
