Physical Characteristics

Passiflora ligularis is an evergreen Climber growing to 5 m (16ft) by 0.5 m (1ft 8in) at a fast rate. See above for USDA hardiness. It is hardy to UK zone 10. The plant is self-fertile. It is noted for attracting wildlife. Suitable for: medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils and prefers well-drained soil. Suitable pH: mildly acid and neutral soils. It can grow in semi-shade (light woodland) or no shade. It prefers moist soil.

Distribution

Western and Northern S. America - Peru and Bolivia north through Central America to Mexico.

Edible Parts: Fruit Edible Uses: Drink Sweetener Fruit - raw or made into drinks[301 ]. A pleasant, sweet flavour[46 ]. The orange-yellow fruit contains a soft, translucent, perfumed pulp of a very agreeable taste[301 ]. Claimed by many to be the best tasting of the passionfruits[200 , 301 ]. The ovoid fruit is about 8cm x 5cm[200 ].
