Aconitum hemsleyanum is a PERENNIAL growing to 1.5 m (5ft) by 0.3 m (1ftĀ in). See above for USDA hardiness. It is hardy to UK zone 4. It is in flower from July to August. The flowers are pollinated by Bees. Suitable for: light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils and can grow in heavy clay soil. Suitable pH: mildly acid, neutral and basic (mildly alkaline) soils. It can grow in semi-shade (light woodland) or no shade. It prefers moist soil.

Medicinal Uses

A widely used herbal remedy in China, where it is cultivated for its root[4]. This is harvested in the autumn as the plant dies down and is then dried before being used. The root is anaesthetic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antirheumatic, cardiotonic, stimulant and vasodilator[4]. Use with caution, the plant is very poisonous and should not be used internally[218].
