Aristolochia kaempferi is a PERENNIAL growing to 1 m (3ft 3in). It is in flower from April to May. The species is hermaphrodite (has both male and female organs) and is pollinated by Flies. Suitable for: light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils and prefers well-drained soil. Suitable pH: mildly acid, neutral and basic (mildly alkaline) soils. It can grow in semi-shade (light woodland) or no shade. It prefers moist soil.

Medicinal Uses
Cytotoxic Pectoral Pectoral[178]. The fruit has been suggested for use in lung ailments[218]. The fruit is used in the treatment of haemorrhoids and ascites[178, 218]. The plant contains aristolochic acid, which is an active antitumour agent but is too toxic for clinical use[218].
