Physical Characteristics

Ribes irriguum is a deciduous Shrub growing to 3 m (9ft 10in). The species is hermaphrodite (has both male and female organs) and is pollinated by Insects. Suitable for: light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils and prefers well-drained soil. Suitable pH: mildly acid, neutral and basic (mildly alkaline) soils. It can grow in semi-shade (light woodland) or no shade. It prefers moist soil.

North-western N. America - southwards from British Columbia.

Edible Uses

Edible Parts: Fruit Edible Uses: Fruit - raw or cooked[101, 105, 161, 257]. The fruit can be dried for later use[257]. A gooseberry[161]. The fruit is about 7 - 13mm in diameter[200].

Medicinal Uses

Stomachic A decoction of the root has been used as a tonic for the stomach[257].
