Clematis barbellata is a deciduous Climber growing to 4 m (13ft 1in). See above for USDA hardiness. It is hardy to UK zone 5. It is in flower from May to August. The species is hermaphrodite (has both male and female organs) and is pollinated by Bees, flies. Suitable for: light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils and prefers well-drained soil. Suitable pH: mildly acid, neutral and basic (mildly alkaline) soils and can grow in very acid soils. It can grow in semi-shade (light woodland) or no shade. It prefers moist soil.

Analgesic Dysentery Stomachic The juice of the leaves is used to relieve stomach aches, especially those caused by indigestion, diarrhoea and dysentery[272]. The juice is placed inside the nostrils to relieve sinusitis[272]. The leaves are crushed and then sniffed to relieve headaches[272].
Known Hazards
Although no reports of toxicity have been seen for this species, some if not all members of this genus are mildly poisonous. The toxic principle is dissipated by heat or by drying[65].
