Vitis labruscana is a deciduous Climber growing to 15 m (49ft 3in). See above for USDA hardiness. It is hardy to UK zone 5 and is not frost tender. It is in flower from June to July, and the seeds ripen from September to October. The species is hermaphrodite (has both male and female organs) and is pollinated by Insects. Suitable for: light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils and prefers well-drained soil. Suitable pH: mildly acid, neutral and basic (mildly alkaline) soils. It can grow in semi-shade (light woodland) or no shade. It prefers dry or moist soil.

Edible Uses
Edible Parts: Fruit Leaves Edible Uses: Fruit - raw or dried for winter use[11, 177]. A 'foxy' flavour that is not normally relished in Europe[11]. However, the fruit is larger and less 'foxy' than V. labrusca[11]. The fruit is about 25mm in diameter[200] and is carried in fairly large bunches. The fruit is commonly used for making wine in N. America[11]. Young leaves are wrapped around other foods and then baked, they impart a pleasant flavour. Young tendrils - raw or cooked.
